Participatory Microcatchment Planning

• (1987 up to now): TCDC Project on Integrated soil management and improvement with emphasis on conservation-effective tillage methods (Angola, Cape vert, Guinea Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique and Sao Tome et Principe); GCP/COS/012/NET in Costa Rica, GCP/ELS/004/NET in San Salvador: GCP/RLA/107/JPN in Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil Chile and Paraguay and the Sub-Himalayan Region (India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bhutan) use the micro-catchment as Social and Physical Unit of Planning and Lands Conservation Management where there is a geo-hydrological component and a socio-economic component, and where man is the key element in the planning process

• The results of these projects also demonstrate the value of the participatory approach with continual processes of feedback of experiences from the field to optimise the farmer-adviser relations which increase the farmers adaptation and adoption of soil conservation-effective improvements.
